March 13 Tarot Class with Anastasia – The Tarot Knights

Filed Under Classes and Workshops | 2 Comments

This Saturday, March 13, I’ll be teaching my Second Saturday Tarot Class. This month’s topic is the Tarot Knights.

So what is it that makes these guys jump on their horses and ride off to do deeds of derring-do?  In an age when most people don’t know how to ride horses or wield swords, how do the Knights relate to our society? We’ll also look at how the Knights have been transformed into other figures in recent decks.

This class will have a unique hands-on component – but you have to attend to find out what it is!

Bring your cards, notebook and pen, and sense of adventure!

More details and registration here!

Due to space considerations, we request that you preregister for the class.

Card of the Day: Voyager, 2 of Crystals – Equanimity

Filed Under Daily Draw | Comments Off on Card of the Day: Voyager, 2 of Crystals – Equanimity

Today’s card is from James Wanless’ Voyager Tarot.  The 2 of Crystals, titled Equanimity, is tied to the Priestess card, both by number and by the sense of calm and balance.

Voyager - Two of Crystals

Voyager - Two of Crystals

Like the Priestess card, the Two of Crystals encourages us to find balance. This suit, dealing with the mental and intellectual balance necessary to navigate our daily obligations, reminds – literally “re-minds” – us to be balanced and clear in our thinking. Especially on this balance day, midweek, we can be mentally fatigued, and find ourselves making unbalanced decisions.

Don’t be distracted by shiny objects, or glittery forms with no substance.  Focus on what is real, what is true, and let that clarity inform all of your decisions.

Card of the Day: Rachel Pollack’s Shining Tribe – The Magician

Filed Under Daily Draw | 1 Comment

The Magician figure in most Tarot decks is male; however, in Rachel’s Shining Tribe Tarot, the figure wears both mask and robe, and so is androgynous.

Rachel Pollack's Shining Tribe - The Magician

Rachel Pollack's Shining Tribe - The Magician

This Magician is not a stage magician, not a trickster; this Magician has a deep and profound connection with the earth, air, fire, and water pictured, and has the knowledge – and wisdom – to use them to create magic.

Sometimes, when we want to make a change – even a positive, welcome change – part of ourselves is frightened because we get caught in “what if?”.  What if it doesn’t work? What if I look like an idiot? What if it all goes incredibly wrong, and I’m not as smart as I think I am, and I can’t manage the process?

If you’re feeling stuck, caught in the “what if”, take time to meditate on what is working. What elements are at your disposal?  What resources – external and internal – are available to you?  Does someone have something you need?  Can someone help? Ask. Just ask.  Even if the answer is “no”, you may find an alternate source.  But if you don’t ask, the answer is always “no”.

If we wait until we have all the answers to the “what if” questions, we’ll never take action.

Instead, put on your Robes of Wisdom, your Mask of Confidence, take a deep breath, and do it.

What magic can you create today?

What Does The Star Card Have to Say to You? (Rose Red)

Filed Under Classes and Workshops | Comments Off on What Does The Star Card Have to Say to You? (Rose Red)

I attended Anastasia‘s Studio Class on The Star Card.  We discussed how important the Star is in popular culture and were we find it. She asked us to think of Star references and list any and all for about a minute.  The class wrote their own lists to share.  The first one I thought of was “Baby I’m a Star” by Prince, followed by this list : “Star light, star bright; Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”; “When You Wish Upon A Star”, and “Star Wars”.  Others said “Starbucks”; 13 Stars for the first Colonies; Starbuck from literature; as well as Star Trek and the Death Star. We all realized that stars are everywhere in our subconscious as well as our world.

Next we looked at the Star card and chatted about what we each had experienced when it had come up in a reading.  For me, many people have pointed out that the Star is a naked woman pouring water into a body of water and on to the ground.  I have seen this as a person giving away their resources as well as sharing their abundance.  The others in the class had seen it as a confident person who didn’t need to hide behind clothing to be themselves and were sharing their resources and energy with their world.

Enlightening us with real-world facts, Anastasia next shared with us the wonders of real stellar objects and the different types that exist.  Beginning with the the different types of stars we see; Bright Giants, Supergiants, and Hypergiants; these are just some of the ways scientists classify types of stars.  We noted that groups like constellations can also  can be charted.  Stars are rarely alone and have bodies that revolve around them.  Many groups have a central figure or pairing and it is built around these.  Most groups can be charted and it is amazing to me to see how everyone one knows fits in to their own constellations and where these groups  intersect. She also shared with us the beauty that can be found in space from images that were gathered by the Hubble Telescope.  They were amazing and inspirational.

Following that, we discussed the many different way that star symbols have been used in philosophy, religion, and mythology. The 4 point star was usually recognized as the The Star of the Magi. The 5 point star was the pentacle, as well as seen as the manifestation of the 5 senses or the divine manifested on the physical plane.  The 6 point star was seen as the Star of Solomon and as the they symbol of Judaism. The 7 point star is also referred to as the star of the Magi but also as the Fairy Star or Elven Star. The 8 pointed star is seen as the star of regeneration as well as the North Star. The 12 point star often is seen as the representation of the 12 signs of the zodiac as well as the 12 apostles.

We discussed the many meanings of the Star Card over the years.  It was interesting to see how its meaning had evolved over time.  Still my favorite was Rachel Pollack‘s which was “life, restoration after darkness”.

We talked about how the Star card influences other cards in a reading and what we could see when we put it with, for example, the following cards: The Empress, the Wheel of Fortune, Justice, The Moon, and the Sun as well as the four 8s from the Pip cards.  Next we partnered up and  pulled the Star card out of our decks and then shuffled the rest and pulled one for ourselves to interact with the Star card.  I shuffled and got the Hierophant.  My partner saw these two together and said to me that I should look into teaching and sharing what I have learned over the years; maybe it was time to be the teacher and share my gathered traditions and insights with others.

Finally, Anastasia took us on a guided meditation and we went into the Star card to see what we could and interacted with the characters in the card.  I went in and asked the Lady by the water what knowledge she could share with me to help me move forward with my craft as well as sharing my knowledge. She said: “I can’t give you what you already have.  You just need to follow your heart more and stop doubting yourself.”  I guess I really do need to get out there and teach that class I was offered!

I truly enjoyed attending Anastasia’s class. It gave me insight into a card that has sometimes been difficult for me to use. It also expanded my ideas about what the Star card can mean to others as well. Seeing awesome images of real stars that have so inspired humanity certainly helped!
